Career Counselling – Calgary – Maternity Leave

Why is career counselling after maternity leave a good idea?

You have gone through a significant life transition, and at an ideal stage in life to benefit from career counselling. You are close to completing your maternity leave, and you’re thinking about what kind of job is going to best fit with your new family demands. Career counselling increases your self-awareness, so you are making this decision with courage and confidence, and backed by the solid rationale and information that comes from this process. Maybe the job you had prior to having a baby is no longer a fit for you, and it’s time to rethink your priorities and lifestyle. Career counselling certainly helps you understand what is going to best fit for you.

Now that I’ve had a baby, what should I be considering regarding my career?

There are so many considerations after having a baby! Maybe you’re wanting work that has reduced hours or greater flexibility so you’re able to manage your family demands. Or perhaps you’re hoping to perform some or all of your work from home. Maybe this is a time to consider going back to school, and online programs might offer you the flexibility to work around your family’s schedule. Finding ways to minimize childcare costs may also be a consideration. There are so many decisions to make at this time in your life.

How many sessions does career counselling usually take?

Typically 3-4 hours and 4 tests work really well for most people. Some people may benefit from more sessions if they require further clarity with their career decision, if they are looking at various educational routes, or need to overcome any obstacles standing in their way for their career success.

How much does career counselling cost?

Testing is $100 each, and fees are $220 an hour. The overall cost of career counselling is generally less than the cost of one course at a college or university. It is truly a great investment in your future.

What types of payment do you take? Are costs covered by insurance?

You may pay by cash, cheque, credit, debit, or e-transfer. A receipt is issued for reimbursement through your extended medical plan or health spending account. It is also a tax-deductible medical receipt on your income tax return.

What are the tests used for career counselling?

The four tests I use are a career personality, career interests, career values, and career conflict scales. All these tests have high validity and reliability, and provide a wealth of information for your career counselling process. The tests I use are only available to professionals that are specifically trained and certified as career counsellors.

What does career counselling provide for you?

Career counselling opens up the world of work to you to possibilities that you’ve maybe never considered. Or it can validate and confirm that the new education or a change in career path is indeed right for you. The knowledge you gain from career counselling can help you overcome any road blocks you may encounter as you pursue your dreams. Career counselling gets you off on the right foot and to a good start as your balancing your work and family life. You want what’s best for you and your family. Career counselling after maternity leave can be truly a positive experience!
