One of my areas of specialization is career counselling. I work with people who are in their teens and making educational and occupational decisions for the first time, to people in their mid-careers that are looking to make a career change, to older people who are making a change close to the end of their careers, or people making life changes as they approach retirement.

  • I have taught career theory to graduate students for many years.
  • Fees are reimbursed by your extended medical plan or health spending account (and to your partner’s plan too).
  • Many clients are referred to me by former clients who were very happy with their career counselling experience.
  • With my training with personal issues, I am able to address all your concerns simultaneously.

Why is career counselling so important?
The world of work has changed more quickly in the past few decades than in any other period in history. For people starting on a career path, many of the occupations they will hold over their lifetime haven’t been invented yet due to changes in technology, demographics, and globalization. Given that career choice has become more complex than ever before, having career counselling with a professional is more important than ever before.

Career counselling fees are $240 an hour, and testing cost $110 each. The overall cost of career counselling is generally less than the cost of one course. *Career counselling is a tax-deductible medical receipt on your income tax return, and is truly a great investment in your future.

What types of payment do you take?

I have been involved in career counselling for over 20 years and am passionate about helping people find the right choice for work. When we are in careers that fit, we tend to be happier and healthier. Work that is meaningful provides purpose for our lives, and we will likely be far more successful when we have found the right career path. You are welcome to have a brief telephone consultation to determine if career counselling is going to be helpful for you, and to have any questions answered. If career counselling seems beneficial to your needs, we can go ahead and set up an appointment.

I operate from a short term, solution-focused, strengths-based approach with career counselling. For most people, 3 hours and 4 tests are enough to help guide your career, and for you to make decisions that are going to be right for you. A first meeting is an hour long. This is where I get to know you as an individual, and what you’ve done over your lifetime both in and out of work, as everything is interrelated. Next, you will complete four tests online at your convenience. Your second appointment which is two hours in length is when I interpret your testing. I tie the reports all together so it makes a big picture for you, and I link it to everything I know about you, so it makes perfect sense from your life and your perspective. This tends to be a very positive, empowering and enlightening experience for people. Most clients find their reports validating and confirming.

Generally, people know themselves fairly well, yet when they see their results on paper, it helps increase people’s self-awareness to a degree that makes career decision making so much easier. Not only can results help people plan their lives better, it can also answer many questions on why a current career path is not working very well. The insight that comes from the interpretation of the career reports can be very inspiring.

The four tests include a career personality test, a career interests test, a career values tests, and a career conflict scale. These only take about an hour in total to complete, yet provide a wealth of information for the process.

An added bonus that comes out of the career tests, is the reports help make resume writing so much easier. The reports provide valuable descriptions of your strengths and abilities, which can be used in both your cover letter, resume, or curriculum vitae.
